Money for Small Biz. HOW?

Ok, so I am watching President Obama's press conference last night. I came in about the time he again referenced Small Business and Small Business Owners as the "backbone" of America's economy, and how his programs are making loans and credit available to small business. I am hearing this, the same line I have heard for months, and I am wondering simply; HOW?

Now don't get me wrong, I have no problem going it alone without the government's help, and we have, building a company in 3 years without any assistance from Uncle Sam that is strong enough to weather the current economic storm, and perhaps even achieve modest growth through this recession. We do not need the government's help to survive. We are not looking for a bail out. That said, only a fool would not take Uncle Sam's helping hand to grow their business if it is being offered, and my President keeps telling me that Uncle Sam WANTS TO and IS helping my small business get the capital I need to do this. I come back to my one original question; HOW?

I read last week ( http://preview.tinyurl.com/c4pn82 ) how the SBA was going to guarantee a larger amount to Banks making SBA backed loans. I excitedly called my accountant, thinking maybe I had found at least the beginning of an answer to my question. He told me he had just spoken to a leading SBA lender in the area and asked how this was going to impact getting SBA loans. His answer: Not at all. Rats!! Looks like the SBA isn't the answer ( I wasn't really naive enough to believe it was, but in business you chase down every lead, right? ).

Perhaps I am just not smart enough to figure this all out. That is entirely possible. I have been smart enough to help build a company from scratch in 3 years that will withstand and even prosper through what is being called the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression, but I am not smart enough to figure out How my President is going to help me, the small business person, qualify for these loans that he says he is committed to giving me.

All right, my sarcastic side is coming out just a little, but I really do want to believe President Obama when he says these things. He is right. And I do believe that he genuinely believes what he is saying. I am just not sure he knows how broken the delivery mechanism is.

More than ever before, small businesses are essential to seeing our way out of these economic times. They will be the ones who innovate and execute the new ideas that will lead to new and better ways of doing things. Simply stated, small business will be responsible for improving our quality of life..... Kind of like a little "fruit" company did many years ago when they were involved in bring us this thing I am typing on, and most of us cannot imagine living without. That in turn made it eventually possible for another small business person to take the lead in making it possible for me to post this piece, subjecting you to my thoughts.

I a new to the blogging thing. Not sure if this is a "rant" or a blog, but please, if you have an opinion on this subject post it. Maybe if there are enough of us who ask HOW??, President Obama or his staff will see how broken that delivery mechanism is, and answer us.
